Meet Jamyang — the intern behind this project

About This Project

My name is Jamyang Chozom. I completed my six-month internship at Bhutan Data Scientist Pvt. Ltd, where I originally planned to work on AI in credit default analysis. But as my internship progressed, I noticed many interns — including myself — were struggling with stress. Managing deadlines, adjusting to professional environments, and balancing personal life was taking a real toll.

Why Stress and Wellbeing?

Stress during internships is more common than people talk about. It can affect focus, motivation, and mental health. But stress is not always harmful — when understood and managed, it can also drive personal growth and resilience.

What Came Out of It

I surveyed 156 interns from Gedu College of Business Studies, gathering data on their stress levels, causes, coping strategies, and outcomes. Over half reported feeling stressed, yet most also reported personal growth through the experience.

This Platform

Always remember

Talk to your friends, elders and parents

Whenever stress starts to build up, don't keep it to yourself. The people who care about you want to be there for you.

Pause and Pray

Pause, breathe, and turn to prayer. In silence, you may find clarity and strength. Let peace slowly find its way to you.

You Are Still Learning

You are in a learning process and that is completely okay. Every experience, good or bad, is teaching you something valuable.

Take a Break

Pause and give yourself rest. Step away, stretch, sip something warm and breathe slowly. Small breaks make a big difference.

In my survey, interns' most common coping strategies were calling family and friends, physical exercise, and seeking advice. The top stressor was time management (41.98%), followed by tasks not aligning with studies. These resources are designed to fill that gap.

Key Findings
The top stressors among GCBS interns were time management (41.98%), followed by misalignment between tasks and course of study (37.04%), being unable to meet supervisor's expectations, difficulty adjusting to professional environments, and balancing personal responsibilities alongside work.
Most interns experienced moderate stress sometimes feeling emotionally exhausted, frustrated, or tense. But they also reported personal growth: excitement to learn, pride after completing difficult tasks, and improved focus. Overall, stress can contribute to motivation and personal development when managed effectively.
Common coping methods included calling family and friends, ignoring the problem, doing physical exercise, and seeking advice from supervisors.
Despite high stress levels, most interns reported personal growth. Stress, when managed, can improve focus and productivity. However, unmanaged stress can lead to burnout and decreased performance.
Institutions could implement structured wellbeing check-ins, peer support groups, friendly working environments, and manageable workloads. Addressing interns' wellbeing leads to better performance and stronger professional development.
